A successful strategy that connects artists directly with collectors, A.R.T. reached a record high sale rate.
The 7th edition of Art Revolution Taipei (A.R.T.) commenced the evening of April 17 with 330 artists striking deals. At an unheard of 91.66%, the number of artwork transactions reached a new record. According to Art Director Lee Sun-Don, this year was the most successful edition in this shows history, indicating that A.R.T.’s strategy of targeting precise audiences, perseverance and hard-work have won collectors’ absolute trust and recognition.
From the beginning, A.R.T. has tirelessly upheld their original curatorial mission of placing artists front and center, rigorous selection of artwork, requisite site planning and above all, an “iron-price” policy. This unwavering commitment has created an art show that not only legitimizes its prestige in the art world, but more importantly, winning full trust and recognition of elite collectors. The number of visitors dropped this year, however, more collectors attended with the mindset of buying artwork. By closing night, A.R.T. ended with a record high percentage of artwork transactions than ever before. With less crowds, collectors had more time and space to truly appreciate the art on display and make decisions to collect. 330 out of 360 artists from 63 countries closed more deals than all previous shows.
1. Art Revolution Taipei 2017 Commenced with 91.66% of Artists Striking Deals.
According to Art Director Lee, A.R.T. is neither an academic art exhibition nor a commercially driven show. Instead, the ultimate goal is to incorporate art into people’s daily life. Therefore, the requirements for artist submission is that their work be filled with light, goodness and perfection, in order to resonate a sense of positivity with the viewer. The staff of the show have been instructed to implement the “iron-price” policy, which serves to solidify the credibility and brand of A.R.T. This approach has been embraced by collectors and in turn, trusts the quality of works at the show. The philosophy of A.R.T. is that, “We are not looking for buyers, but rather collectors who truly love beautiful artwork.”
2. A successful strategy that connects artists directly with collectors, A.R.T. reached a record high sale rate.
Mr. John Cheng, Executive Director of A.R.T., strives to uphold the mission of placing artists front and center and be able to offer high quality, yet affordable art, in order to nurture the new generation of collectors in Taiwan. Because A.R.T. is artist oriented, Art Director Lee is often sought out for his advice on their creations. The fair organizers are in constant communication with artists regarding their subject matter, pricing, and evaluations on the art market. Chen Jianxin, an artist from China, was impressed and commented, “It’s the only art fair in the world that offers this kind of service.” He felt that he was truly appreciated as an artist when participating in A.R.T. for the first time.
The persistence and dedication of A.R.T. has not only touched the hearts of artists from around the world, but have won the recognition of prominent art collectors. Last year, a renowned collector from China flew to Taiwan just to attend the show and collect Lee Sun-Don’s sculpture series. Unable to visit the show in person this year, he purchased artworks via conference calls at the show site. French collector, E. Bidult, has been attending the show for the last three years and collected artworks for the first time this edition.
4. A.R.T. strives to uphold the mission of placing artists front and center and be able to offer high quality, yet affordable art.
Celebrities who love art visit A.R.T. each year include Hou You-Yi, Deputy Mayor of New Taipei City; Helen Chang, magistrate of Chia-Yi County; Sophie Chang, chairman’s wife of TSMC; John Hsuan, honorary vice-chairman of UMC; Rick Tsai, famed in semi-conductor field; Hu Gin-Ing, global CFO of Acer; Tsao Guang-Tsann, chairman of ChinPaoSan Group; Chang Chi-Hung, chairman of Rising Foundation; Yang Tze-Kaing, chairman of Yangtze Associates; Ting Sna-Kuang, chairman of Rotex Wall Covering Ent.Co.,Ltd.; Derek J. A.R.T. has not only offered a space to form deep friendships between international artists and local collectors, but also has served as a great civil diplomacy for Taiwan. We are not just reaching for the summit, but aiming beyond. In French collector Mr. E. Bidult’s opinion, based on his long-term observation and experiences in exhibitions, Art Revolution Taipei has great potential to be the “Art Basel” of Taiwan, and stand amongst the great art fairs in the international arena.

This Dutch artist is famous for his 3D sculptures and are highly sought-after in Holland, Belgium, USA and Japan. Artem Ryskin, a young Russian artist, constructed a brain pixilated human figure with screws and wooden boards, never seen before. This grand scale event attracts globally renown artists to compete including British artist Louise Giblin, who was a finalist in previous years, and chosen again. Her work was exhibited at the Florence Biennale 2015 as the British representative. She collaborated with 5 Olympic athletes for nine months during the London Olympic Games in 2012, to create 5 pieces of hollow armor molded from the athletes’ own body form. All proceeds from the Olympic series sold were donated to charity organizations. The two selected works of art is armor-like human figures in bronze. The French artist Gregoire A. Meyer was selected for his photographs and his mastery of digital images. His works is highly esteemed by international media. Meyer won the Gold Stellar Art Award and International Photography Award for 3 years in a row since 2011. His photographs exhibited for the first time at A.R.T. 2015 which greatly impressed the local collectors.
The A.R.T. has created a sensational impact since its debut in 2011; as an innovative art fair with curatorial concepts based on “Artists at the center of the exhibition stage”. A.R.T. has surpassed the conventional notion of an gallery centric artfair, shifting the focus to the artist by only allowing each booth dedicated to a solo for the exhibiting artist. Thus allowing A.R.T. to become a top international art fair in Asia. The first edition in 2011 was stunning with 89.66% of the exhibiting artists with transactions – a performance comparable to some top art fairs of the world such as Art Basel. The second edition in 2012 hitting a record high with 91.18% of artists sold their works. Some top artists sold out their exhibiting artworks, including Philippe Pasqua from France, and renown artists from U.S.A. and Europe, such as Gabriel Picart, Luigi Pellanda, and Dennis Wojtkiewicz. There was a record amount of collectors attending the 3rd edition in 2013, which resulted in many artists’ works were selling out on the night of VIP Preview. The percentage of exhibiting artists with transactions reached up to 93.21% in 2014, a new record among art fairs in the world. In 2015, the organizer was bold enough to challenge the weekend of Mother’s day, and still drew successfully more than 20,000 people to visit, achieving 84.89% of artists (236) concluding deals. In 2016, in spite of the globally sluggish economy, the transaction rate rebounded to 90% with 286 artists selling their works. Art Director Lee Sun-Don posed a challenge to “pre-collect”artwork that had not even yet been created. This unheard of idea of collecting art was backed enthusiastically by many collectors. Collectors ordering these uncreated paintings based on the reputation of these artists prove that A.R.T. has a trusted and absolute authority in the contemporary art scene.
The finalists of the International Artist Grand Prize Competition are listed as follows. 280 entries will be exhibited at the A.R.T. from April 14~17, 2017. The winners will be announced during the exhibition. We welcome all to be part of this grandeur art festival.

Asia's Top Annual Art Contest
International Artist Grand Prize Competition Is Now Open
Artists Compete for Solo Exhibition Booths at A.R.T. , Asia’s Most Prestigious Art Fair.
The International Grand Prize Art Competition is the highly anticipated juried event in the art industry that is now open for submissions. Top artists18 years or older are eligible for the competition. Not only will artwork be selected and exhibited at Art Revolution Taipei (A.R.T.) 2017, but the winners of the Grand Prize and Gallery Recognition will also be granted a solo exhibition booth at the 8th A.R.T. held in 2018.
Organized by Taiwan International Contemporary Artist Association (TICAA) and co-sponsored by A.R.T., the purpose of the International Artist Grand Prize Competition is to encourage artists to fully exert their talents and creativeness, and offer an opportunity to showcase their work on the international platform. Since its establishment, the competition has risen to a notable scale amongst the Asian art fairs, gaining great reputation for attracting some of the most excellent artists around the world. Entries in 2016 set a new record with 4,058 pieces of artworks from 73 countries, including some seldom seen at exhibitions such as Qatar, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Croatia, Macedonia, Lithuania, Norway, Luxemburg, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ecuador, Chile, Honduras, Venezuela and Uganda. This proves that the Grand Prize Competition has become a highly sought after international competition.
In addition to recognition and support from international artists, this competition is also an excellent stage for emerging artists. The co-organizer A.R.T. presents artworks from exhibiting artists and helps them to expand their presence in Asia, gaining more opportunities for exhibitions, sales and representation. Many artists obtain collectors’ support and market presence from this competition.
Kurma Venkata Siva Prasad, a self-taught Indian artist, is a great example. He exhibited and sold out his entire 30 piece collection at the 6th edition of A.R.T., becoming a shining star in Asia. Jeni bev Biktimirova from Russia, the 2013 1st Prize winner, went on to participate with her own booth at both A.R.T. 2014 and 2015. Her words represented the voice of emerging artists, "This art fair is truly encouraging and inspiring; There is so much support and help from the organizers, and my hope is that other artists can experience this same amazing opportunity." The Turkish artist Mustafa Yuce, winner of the Gallery Prize 2015, was covered by a local media, instantly becoming well known in Asia.
Submissions for The International Artist Grand Prize Competition 2017 is now open until October 31, 2016. Artists over 18 years old are eligible to enroll. The selected entries will be announced on November 30, 2016 and be exhibited during the 7th A.R.T. running April 13 ~ 17, 2017. The award-winning artists will then be exhibited in the "International Artist Salon" during the 8th edition and the winners will be granted solo exhibition booths, sponsored by X-Power Gallery. Grand Prize winner will be granted two booths, while Gallery Recognition prize will be awarded one booth.
A.R.T. has created a sensational impact since its debut in 2011, with the innovative concept of "presenting artists at the center of the exhibition stage." Under meticulous curatorial design from Art Director Lee Sun-Don, A.R.T. presents a solo exhibition for each artist. This innovative artist-oriented layout has developed into one of the top international art fairs in Asia. In 2011, artists sales reached 89.66%, comparable to Art Basel; for the 2nd edition, the figure raised to 91.18%, with notable artists such as French artist Philippe Psaqua selling out his entire exhibited artwork. The fair received high accolades by reputable blue chip artists such as Gabriel Picart, Luigi Pellanda, Dennis Wojtkiewicz and others. In 2013, collectors emerged to buy out all the exhibited works of just one artist at the VIP Preview. Sales reached 93.21% in 2014 becoming a record high among art fairs worldwide. In 2015, the organizer ‘audaciously’ challenged the Mother’s Day shopping holiday, still attracting more than 20,000 visitors to the exhibition, with over 80% being first time art collectors. A strict "iron-willed" pricing strategy was implemented to discourage price haggling of fine art, which was widely supported by both artists and collectors, resulting in 84.89% of artists concluding deals. 2016 brought together existing and new buyers, concluding the exhibition with 90.79% sales rate. Moreover, Art Director Lee launched an unprecedented idea to have collectors "reserve" the "yet to be created" Qi series from MaSingLing. Just the idea of conception resulted in over a dozen of paintings sold, demonstrating that A.R.T. itself has become an authoritative endorsement.
The International Artist Grand Prize Competition invites talented artists from around the world to compete in the prestigious event. With 90% of Artists Having Struck Deals, An Audacious Idea of Reservation Was Highly Supported
Art Revolution Taipei 2016 Rounded Off With 90% of Artists Having Struck Deals, An Audacious Idea of Reservation Was Highly Supported
2016The Art Revolution Taipei (A.R.T.) 2016 rounded off at 8:00 P.M. on April 25, after four days’ exhibition plus the VIP Preview. 286 artists sold their artworks to reach a transactional rate up to 90.79%. Among them, almost 40 artists sold out their exhibiting works, including MANIHOO, Singway, Ling Ling, Haven Sun, Ceng Qunce, Kelly Mi, Xu Sha, Thibault Jandot, Alexander Oligerov, Kurma V.S.P., and others. The artist trio MaSingLing sold more than 100 pieces of works, plus 13 pieces of reserved artworks, the “Qi” series for 2017. Collectors’ recognition to the Art Revolution Taipei is not just an “absolute brand,” but also the “authoritative brand.”
After the previous 5 years’ incubation and diligent efforts, the A. R. T. has nurtured different types of collectors to converge this year with new comers. The total number of visitors reached up to 22,607 people for the whole exhibition with the buying moods and popularity exploded right at the VIP Preview. Some artists sold out their exhibiting artworks, including MANHOOO, Singway, Ling Ling, Wang Zhaoju, Deng Guoshong, Kelly Mi and Thibault Jandot from France. Red dots appeared on the exhibition panel one after another at the first fervent night.
Being always innovative at the Art Revolution Taipei, this year, Prof. Lee Sun-Don, the Art Director, challenged collectors with an audacious idea to “reserve”MaSingLing’s latest series “Qi” for 2017. This idea was highly supported by some collectors; 13 artowrks were sold by the end of the exhibition. To buy a “future”artwork verifies again the Art Revolution Taipei has become the authorative guarantee on this “absoulte brand.”
Nearly 40 artists sold out their exhibiting artworks, including Haven Sun, Ceng Qunce, Bai Yalin, Chen Gaolin, Xu Sha, Gao Xiaoyun, Small Sa, GOGO YU, CindyThornton (U.S.A.), Alex Bertaina (Italy), Catrin Welz-Stein (Germany), Kurma V.S.P. (India), Bhaskararao Botcha (India), Michal Straska (Slovakia), Alexander Oligerov (Russia), Ismail Turel (Turkey), Fred Kato Mutebi (Uganda), Ekaterina Eneva (Bulgaria). Among them, Luna Chen sold 54 pieces of works. The artist trio MaSingLing sold more than 100 pieces of works; some exhibiting panels remained blank, even the Organizer kept on bringing out new paintings.
According to John Cheng, the Executive Director of A.R.T., there are more artists in more diversified styles with even higher quality for these 6 years; however, we always keep our original aspiration in mind to make arts affordable for the public. Therefore, the pricing level has been remaining at certain section, neither being academic nor extravagant. The global economy has been slow since the second half of 2015, which has impacted indirectly on investing and consuming markets, including art investments. Nevertheless, based on the fact that the transactional rate was over 90%, John said: “We adhere to the right persistence.”
This high end art fair has attracted quite some celebrities who love arts, including Ms. Chang Po-Ya, president of the Control Yuan; Mr. Chen Wu-Kang, director of Kelti Group; Mr. Jason Liao, chairman of Taiwan Cooperative Bank; Mr. Chen Shengtian, chairman of Sampo Group; Mr. Antonio Su, chairman of Ho Tai Development; Mr. Daniel Wu, former VP of China Development Financial Holding Corp; Mr. Chang Chao-Fen, Chariman of U-Tech Media; Mr. and Mrs. Chen Chun-Yi, chairman of FERRI Jewelry; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hsueh-Jong, chairman of Rotunda Group; Mr. Han Gou-Fu, chairman of OEC Group; Mr. Michael Hsu, chairman of The A Team; Mr. Chen Zhao-Wen, general manager of China Motor; Ho You-Yi, deputy mayor of New Taipei City; Hsieh Rong-Sou, Consultant of New Taipei city; Ms. Hsu Shu-Hua, councilor of Taipei City; Mr. Lee Ching-Yuan, councilor of Taipei City; Mr. Chen Chien-Jen, former minister of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Yao Eng-Chi, former vice-president of Legislative Yuan; Guan Guan, poet; Mr. He Chih-Yuan, senior radio host; and entertainers Summer Meng, Winnie Ho, Vivi Ho, Eric Lee, Helen Thanh Đào, Fan Ko-Ching, and many others.
The Art Revolution Taipei has been based on the core belief to establish a characteristic art platform, and to offer more opportunities for more artists to showcase more artworks. With the vast dedications and efforts from previous editions, the A.R.T. has become an authoritative and iconic art fair in Asia, also the best platform for American and European artists to enter into the Asian market in just 6 years. To show respects on artists and artworks, Prof. Lee Sun-Don persisted the “iron-willed” policy to break down the malpractice of raising prices first then offering discount last year, in order to nurture a mature art market internationally; which has been greatly supported by collectors and artists as well. The biggest international art publisher, Art Newspaper, listed the A.R.T. 2015 on their calendar as a “globally important art fair,” which in turn recognizes the Organizer’s persistence and dedications for years.

The 6th edition of Art Revolution Taipei(A.R.T.) unveiled its grand opening on April 21, with its trendy amazements and surprises as usual, just like its previous years. The VIP Preview started at 7:00 P.M., yet art enthusiasts queued up before 6:00P.M. A record high of 5,554 people dressed up to visit the exhibition, including some major collectors and celebrities, such as Mr. Chen Wu-Kang, director of Kelti Group; Mr. Ho You-Yi, deputy mayor of New Taipei City; Ms. Chang Po-Ya, president of the Control Yuan; and the poet Guan-Guan. One collector from Mainland China even took his private jet to buy a stunning totemic sculpture of fossil created by Prof. Lee Sun-Don, the Art Director. Some artists sold out their exhibiting artworks, including MANHOOO, Sinway, Ling Ling, Kelly Mi, Thibault Jandot, Ceng Qunce, and Wang Zhaoju; deals were struck zealously through active and live interactions between collectors and artists.
“The Glory of Life” is the spirited theme for the A.R.T. 2016. According to Prof. Lee Sun-don, the Art Revolution Taipei has been working hard with one thing in mind – to “put artists as the center of curation,” which has been highly valued by artists; more than 70 artists come to Taiwan for this grand event, have successfully fulfilled the concept to “establish diplomatic relations” with the vast world of arts. Image of a beautiful island with humanities and arts, exuding complete and positive energies has thus established.
In response to the spiritual theme, Prof. Lee has combined the 3C technologies with screens of global securities and exchange markets into an innovative installation art, to represent the fierce impacts on the globe from the financial markets is like the violent Tyrannosaurust. Furthermore, there are different highlights from eleven sections: A.R.T. Curatorial, International Contemporary Art, New York Contemporary Art Fund, International Artist Salon, China Contemporary Art, Taiwan Contemporary Art, Contemporary Ink Painting, Art with Entrepreneurs, International Artist Grand Prize Competition, Art and Design, and Art Your Compassion. All sections feature rigorously selected artworks by Prof. Lee, based on the persistence to recruit more artist with great potentials and artworks with top quality, to surprise and amaze visitors annually.
After the previous 5 years’ incubation and diligent efforts, the Art Revolution Taipei has nurtured different types of collectors. Prof. Lee said, the exhinition timing is perfect this year to converge the buying moods and popularity, off the chart, at the VIP Preview. Some artists sold out their exhibiting artworks, including MANHOOO, Sinway, Ling Ling, Wang Zhaoju, and Deng Guoshong; while artworks by Kelly Mi and Thibault Jandot from France were all taken by two different construction companies. Red dots appeared on the exhibition panel one after another at this fervent night.
Last year, Prof. Lee Sun-Don’s creative concepts to combine billions of years’ fossils with contemporary sculptures have amazed the art world; he uses extremely rare Pistosaurus, Mosasaurus, ichthyosaur, giant gorgeous Ammonite, fossil woods and other rare materials to compose his splendid masterpieces. An owner of a huge commercial group in Mainland China is so amazed with great admiration that he took his private jet with his art fellows to collect some of those awesome sculptures. Prof. Lee’s creative concept is one of a kind to go beyond human’s limitation, the first ever in the art history to combine billions of years’ fossils with contemporary sculptures.
The A.R.T. has built an excellent image and reputation on huge successes from the previous 5 years. At the VIP Preview, art lovers lined a long queue at entrance before 6:0P.M., with visitors in total of 5,554 people. Based on MaSingLing’s “The Sun of The Lord” painting, this Outlander CRV symbolizes the selfless paternal love. Luna Chen presents a painting, Happy Summer Time , particularly for the fashionable COLT PLUS, with childish touches and Mediterranean aroma. These two cars have become the focus of spotlight for visitors to pose for photos.
